It is dedicated to the Ukrainian secret organization that emerged in Kyiv at the end of 1845, which was one of the manifestations of the rise of the national movement and the intensification of the All-Slavic movement. The Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius has a prominent place in the development of national-political and historical thought, the formation of the Ukrainian idea. M. Kostomarov, P. Kulish, T. Shevchenko, M. Gulak, G. Andruzky, and V. Bilozersky played a leading role in the society.
On the obverse of the coin there are: at the top on a mirror background - a small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which - 2020, above the emblem - the inscription UKRAINE; under the coat of arms - the denomination of the coin 5 / UAH; on both sides of the coat of arms and inscriptions - stylized shoots with leaves; inscriptions on a matte background: BOOKS / BEING / UKRAINE / PEOPLE / PEOPLE (left), STATUTE / SLAVIC / SKY / BROTHERHOOD / ST. CYRIL / I METHODIUS (right); logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (below).
On the reverse of the coin on a mirror background there are portraits of members of the society: T. Shevchenko (left), M. Kostomarov (center), P. Kulish (right), below - a print of a wax seal; inscriptions: CYRIL-METHODIUS SOCIETY (above in a semicircle), 175 / YEARS (above the portraits), TARAS SHEVCHENKO (under the portrait of T. Shevchenko), MYKOLA KOSTOMAROV (under the portrait of M. Kostomarov), PANTELIUS (under the portrait of M.
