Series: Ancient Cities of Ukraine
Dedicated to the city, located on the river Kazenny Torets, near the Torsky salt lakes. The history of the future city began long ago, when this area belonged to the Wild Field. In 1645, an “outpost” was built on the river crossing, and later a fortress city was founded (until 1784 - Tor, Solyany), which by the end of the 18th century. turned into a county town, where merchants from all over Slobidska Ukraine gathered for auctions. The development of the city is historically associated with the salt industry - salt production and treatment of patients with salt water and healing mud. The modern city of Sloviansk is one of the symbols in Ukraine’s struggle for the return of the occupied territories lost as a result of the 2014 Russian aggression.
On the obverse of the coin there are: at the top - a small State Emblem of Ukraine, to the left of which the inscription UKRAINE (semicircle) and the denomination of the coin - 5 / UAH; in the center on a mirror background - a stylized composition that reflects the historical periods of the city's founding: a Cossack on the background of a fragment of a wooden fortress, under which stylized waves and the inscription: SALT / TOR; year of coinage - 2020 and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (to the right of the Cossack).
The reverse of the coin depicts a stylized composition of the modern city against the silhouette of Mount Karachun: above - the coat of arms of Slovyansk, under which the administrative building of the City Council, historic buildings - Holy Resurrection Church (right), the city hospital (left), in the foreground below - fountain.
